Award-winning filmmaker Daniel Korb entered the entertainment industry at age 5 when he appeared on stage for the first time. Since then he has acted in, directed, written, edited, or shot hundreds of television shows, commercials, music & corporate videos, films video games, & theatrical productions.
By the age of 13, Korb was already a seasoned performer, having acted in dozens of productions. Accepting an invitation to star in a short film produced by a local video class, his passion for working on the other side of the camera was ignited. Not only did he enroll in the class, he wrote, directed, and edited the class' short film which went on to win the California Short Video Contest. Korb devoted his ample energies to learning every aspect of filmmaking. He gained experience interning at various Northern California production companies, meanwhile editing, writing, directing, staring in & shooting his own productions. By 16, Korb had won numerous awards and was working consistently as a cameraman, director & editor.
When he was just 18, Korb became Creative Director for The Broadcast Production Group, a leading Bay Area production company. Meanwhile he pursued his career as an actor on the side. Korb's acting career took off quickly, but ended abruptly when he broke his back in a theatre accident. Two surgeries and two years later, Korb's total focus was on directing and writing. His short film, Hurdy Gurdy was a major success, winning film festivals and opening doors to Hollywood.
Korb moved to New York in 1998 and became involved in the theatre community, studying with some of the best teachers, including an intensive training program taught by Oscar-winning director Mike Nichols (The Graduate, Primary Colors, The Birdcage, Working Girl). He also studied with Alfred Molina at Uta Hagen's HB studios. His experience in New York helped him to gain a mastery in the art of story telling, both as director & writer. Korb's insight into the acting process has significantly benefited him in directing a wide variety of actors. In 2002 Korb moved to Los Angeles where he directed commercials and music videos and edited such shows as the Emmy nominated "The Apprentice", Ashten Kucher's "Beauty and the Geek", Oprah Winfrey's new reality show, "The Big Give" and the opening of "Die Hard 4."
Korb has been recognized for his multi-faceted skills with numerous distinguished entertainment industry awards, including the Lumiere Award in the category of Best Film at the New Orleans Film Festival. His short film, Hurdy Gurdy was also an official entry at the New York International Independent Film & Video Festival, The Toronto International Comedy Film Festival, & garnered his star the award for Best Actor at the Slum Dance Film Festival in Park City. Korb's commercial for Novell, which he directed, edited, produced, and co-wrote won Best Television Commercial at the prestigious Joey Awards.
Korb's commercial PCI Passion was given three Telly awards; Best Commercial, special effects, and score. In addition, Korb won the awards for Best Director, Best Achievement, & Best Editor at the International Monitor Awards in the category of Non-Broadcast Educational with Health Careers. Moreover, Korb's Health Careers also garnered the award for Best Educational at the Cindy Awards & two Awards of Excellence for Camera Work & General Educational at the Joey Awards.
Korb's screenplay, "Marry Me!" was a quarterfinalist for the Nicholl Fellosship, Scriptapalooza, Storypros, and the Silverscreenwriting competitions. Korb has adapted Marry Me! into a musical comedy with his brother, rocker, Darren Korb.
